Usu Zenkoji Temple

This temple marks the place where the Buddhist priest Jikaku Daishi first enshrined the figure of Amida. It was recognized as one of the three temples of old Hokkaido by the shogun Tokugawa Ienari in 1804. The main hall was spared the damage from the Mt. Usu eruption.
