Recommended Routes for Camping A night under the stars.

Camping! Camp out among nature!

The Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark area has many great camping sites. Enjoy some fresh Hokkaido food, and have a barbecue under the open sky! How nice!

Lakeside Camping Lodging by the lake.

A lot of camping sites large and small surround the lakeside of Lake Toya. Some camping sites offer serene spaces, while others offer large spaces, fully equipped with rental gear and facilities where you can just bring yourself and have a camp.

Seaside Camping Lodging by the sea.

Seaside camping is also fun. There are many kinds of spots to choose, from the tip of the cape, to the one on the beach. From these sites, you can see the bay of Uchiura-wan and its various hues depending on the time of day.

    A relaxing time!
    Rest along the lakeside.
  2. Start!
  3. New Chitose Airport
    JR Sapporo Station
  4. Toya Mizu-no-eki
    Local store fronts offer specialty seasonal vegetables and other products produced locally in Toya. Try some shiso (Japanese herb) flavor soft serve ice cream!
  5. Toya Mizube-no-Sato Takarada Camp Site
    A vehicle-permitted “auto camp” site in the woods by the lake. Bring some food and have a barbecue! Relax and spend some quiet time in a tent at night.
  6. Toya Toy Box: Early Canoeing Tour
    Get up before dawn and go canoeing in the morning! It’s a special feeling to paddle a canoe over Lake Toya in the bright morning sun.
  7. Toya Ikoi-no-Ie
    After camping and canoeing, relaxing your tired body in the peaceful hot springs is a great choice.

  4. Roadside Station Toyoura
    Have a break from driving and try strawberry flavor soft serve ice cream here. Made with local strawberries, it is a sweet and tasty treat!
  5. Lunch at Tobokkusu
    Try some tasty hamburgers made with local ingredients. Order a Buhitto Hamburger or a Scallop Burger to-go and enjoy it on the beach!
  6. Toyoura Seaside Park Camp Site
    A camp site by the sea where in summer people can enjoy swimming. The beach facing the bay of Uchiura-wan is wide and spacious.
  7. Toyoura Onsen “Shiosai”
    A natural hot spring without any filtration or additives, it is conveniently located just next to the camp site and features wide, spacious bathtubs.

  4. Roadside Station Sobetsu Johokan i
    The farmers market “Sams” sells local produce and other items. See the Tourism Information Center and Volcano Disaster Prevention Learning Center too.
  5. Sobetsu Waterfall
    Walk up the path along Sobetsu River and you will see the 18-meter tall Sobetsu waterfall. The negative ions in the air makes you feel refreshed!
  6. Chikara-iwa Observation Park – Sobetsu Park
    Take note of the giant rock with 5-meter sides sitting just beneath the surface of the lake as you stroll from one park to another.
  7. Mori-to-Ki no sato Center
    A camp site in the wilderness surrounded by woods, it is fully equipped with useful facilities such as cabins, barbecue sites, showers, and a cookhouse.
  8. Sobetsu Onsen Yuai-no-Ie
    At the end of the day, how about relaxing at the natural hot springs?
