July and August sees summer in full swing at the Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark. This season is short, so dash over the lake on a boat, dive in the sea, ride a canoe, explore the mountains, and see fireworks at night. Exciting, isn’t it?
Canoeing and motorboat riding are the best water activities to do in summer. Or, take a boat to Nakajima Island. The path around the crater of Mt. Usu is also very impressive. You can even go swimming in the sea at the bay of Uchiura-wan.

The Lake Toya Long Run Fireworks Display is the major event of summer, where gorgeous fireworks are launched over the lake every night. Other events include the festival with lots of food stands and fairs, makeshift shrines, and bon-dancing.
